Ulster Area Council  O' Neills Barracks Cavan 27th May 2007

The Ulster Area Council was form in 2003 after the establishment of 3 more Branches

being created some time earlier. Prior to this there was only the Derry Branch in the Ulster

Area. Recently the Tannagh Branch joined the Area Council bring to 5 the number of

Branches in the Ulster Area Council. If you wish to join one of the local Branches or any

side menu. To qualify you should be a past member of the Permanent Defence Forces

The Reserve Defence Forces L,D.F.C.A, Reserve, An Slua Muiri, Maritime Inspection,

L.S.F, Coast Watching Service, Construction Corps, Irish Red Cross, or Civil Defence

providing such person had at least one year satisfactory service and has an

honorable discharge.The Council meets about 3 times per year. Branches meet about

once per month and organise different events throughout the year.

The Organisation is actively involved in securing accommodation throughout the Country. At present accommodation is available in Dublin, Bru Na bhFiann .17/20 Queen Stree. Dublin. More houses are available nationwide. There is housing available in the Curragh Athlone and in Letterkenny.

 

What do they do ? - Their main objective of O.N.E.T. is the welfare of ex-servicemen and women by way of providing accommodation to homeless, elderly or disabled members in need of such domestic accommodation and shelter and other assistance required. They also promote social cultural and athletic activities develop a spirit of comradeship between serving and retired members of the services, provide information on such things as pensions, social welfare benefits for elderly etc.
